Pius and Miriam with Gypsie and Mia (from 28.05.18):
After another rainy night we get on the bus at 9.33 am at the bus stop Glaris and drive back to Davos Dorf. From here we start our hike today to Langwies. From Davos train station an asphalt path leads past the village. At a turn-off we follow the Jakobsweg signpost and from here on we walk along a forest path, which zigzagging in parts brings us quite steeply to Schatzalp. On the whole trail as well as on Schatzalp you have to wear a leash. For the ascent we need exactly one hour, this distance could also be covered by funicular. The Schatzalp with the hotel of the same name is situated at 1'861 m above sea level on a sun terrace high above Davos and is a car-free recreation area.

On a wide gravel road we continue our way and after 10 minutes we reach the mountain restaurant Strela Alp, which is only open from June 1st. Without a coffee break, we continue to hike slightly upwards over lush mountain meadows until we take a break on a bench. Here you have a great view of Davos, Lake Davos and the surrounding mountains. Opposite is the Jakobshorn, where thousands of skiers cavort in winter.

Now a very narrow path on the right leads up the slope towards the Strelapass. The pastures are again dotted with colourful meadow flowers and beautiful to look at. Although the path is quite steep in parts, we find the ascent pleasant and easy to master. Further up there are still some snowfields, but we can walk around them without problems. Already from a distance we can recognize the restaurant Strelapass, which is located at 2'352 m above sea level on the ridge of the pass. Unfortunately, this too will not be open until next week, together with the mountain railways. But since the very nice host Klausi lives in the hut all year round, we still get something to drink. Up here it winds quite strongly and we get cold quickly, so that we have to put on a jacket. We sit on the terrace for about an hour and enjoy the beautiful view.

Before we leave, we climb up to the nearby viewpoint, which is right next to the restaurant. This short detour is definitely worth it. You have a magnificent view into the Sapünertal and further on to the Schanfiggertal. At 13.45 we leave the hut and start the descent through the Haupter Täli. This part of the path is quite steep and impassable and we have to be careful not to make any missteps.

After 45 minutes we have overcome the worst and cross the bridge over the Hauptertälibach. From here, a narrow path leads along the brook over pasture land through the Sapünertal to the beautiful mountain inn Heimeli, which is located in a more than 300 year old Walser house that used to be a farm. This restaurant is also open from 01 June. Up to here we have already passed about 500 meters of altitude difference. Up to Langwies it will be the same amount of vertical meters again. From Heimeli we walk on a gravel road with hardly any traffic until we reach the former Walser settlement Sapün Dörfji. Along the whole way you can always enjoy the view to Langwies and further into the Schanfiggertal. In Sapün it is worth taking a short break to admire the old and well-preserved houses with their pretty decorations.

After this picturesque little village the path continues steadily downhill over beautiful mountain meadows with a great variety of flowers and through the forest until we reach Langwies at 4.20 pm. Here in the village shop we buy something cold to drink and treat ourselves to an ice cream. After today's hike of 14.3 km, ascents of 853 m and descents of 1'090 m we have earned this cooling off. It is now only 10 minutes to the train station. Once there, we will board the Rhaetian Railway and after three unforgettable days, we will be on our way home!
